Following the example of many European Cathedrals we decided to start a cycle of organ concerts. At the initiative of the Rector of the Cathedral Msgr. Josip Kuhtic we are introducing a concert series titled "Sounds of the Zagreb Cathedral Organ". We have conceived and developed this series of concerts in collaboration with prof. Mario Perestegi.
The concerts will be held every first and third Sunday of each month from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
With these 30 minute concerts, we want to introduce to our citizens, as well as many tourists and visitors the beauty and artistic value of this significant organ.
Our Cathedral is the centre of strong spiritual inspiration for the entire Croatian nation. With its interior, valuable artwork and exterior beauty it ranks among Europe's finest and most beautiful Cathedrals.
Every Cathedral is proudly boasting its instrument. Just to mention few examples: Notre Dame in Paris, the Cathedral in Cologne, Vienna, Salzburg, Liverpool, London, Riga, Brussels, Milan and many other cities and churches. All of them have a magnificent instrument that by the virtue of its existence serves as connection between past and present. The sounds of these instruments elevate our souls closer to the God. During summer and somewhat less in the winter, many Cathedrals present the organ concerts.
Instead of jealously guarding the splendor and beauty of the organ sounds, the Cathedrals opened its doors to the listeners and visitors. The mystique and religious nature of these spaces together with the sounds of "the King of instruments" provide a powerful spiritual experience for the listener.
All of this inspired us to initiate an organ series "Sounds of the Zagreb Cathedral Organ" - an international festival, starting in March, 2012. We hope that we will be able to present these concerts for many years to come!
